The United States has raised concerns regarding the ongoing human rights violations in Ethiopia, which could potentially affect its chances of receiving financial support from international lenders. This comes as the International Monetary Fund is planning a visit to Ethiopia to discuss an important bailout package.

The tactics employed by the federal army forces under Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s leadership to suppress violent insurgencies have drawn increasing criticism. Numerous reports have emerged, accusing the forces of carrying out extrajudicial killings and conducting drone strikes, resulting in the loss of innocent civilian lives.

The State Department stated in an email that they are consistently observing the human rights conditions in Ethiopia to determine if there are significant violations that could impact US backing for international financial institution aid as per the International Financial Institutions Act. They expressed concern over ongoing reports of human rights violations in #Amhara and #Oromia involving both government and non-state entities.

  1. Really? A closer look at the choreography tells a different story. The move is not out of any humanitarian concern, but to twist the arm of puppet Abiy Ahmed as hard as possible so he delivers on the biddings of his masters. They want Welkait and a regime change in Eritrea which Abiy has failed to help them achieve. TPLF is just another puppet like Abiy resuscitated for the sole purpose of being used as a trojan horse to achieve these two ends. All this arm twisting is to pressure Abiy to accelerate the devaluation so they can precipitate the economic shock that would cause the disintegration of Ethiopia.
    Crocodile tears!
