Supporters of Eskinder Nega turned up in front of a police station

October 25, 2021
Supporters of Eskinder Nega, founder of the opposition Balederal for Genuine Democracy, turned up in front of a police station commonly known as “5tegna Police Tabia” here in the capital Addis Abeba. They gathered there to show their support for and solidarity with Eskinder, who is jailed and is currently facing multiple charges.
His supporters carried the yellow plastic bag to symbolize what Eskinder carried on the day he was released on February 14, 2018 during former Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn’s time in office.
Last week, there was a physical confrontation inside the Kilinto federal prison involving Eskendir and another unnamed prisoner, which Eskinder said was not a “trivial matter.” It resulted in Eskinder missing a court appearance in which prosecutor witnesses were giving their testimonies.
