Ethiopia: Ruling party holds emergency meeting as officials, businessmen arrested for alleged corruption

The Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) called an emergency meeting on Friday as over one hundred government officials and businessmen have reportedly been arrested for an alleged corruption.Information reaching ESAT indicate the government had also frozen the assets of the alleged corrupt officials and businessmen. The report by media affiliated with the ruling party did not provide names of the officials and businessmen arrested on Friday.Members of the executive committee of the EPRDF have reportedly converged in Addis Ababa for the extraordinary meeting that came amid  infighting by the members as to the future of the party that is awashed with favoritism and corruption at the highest level.

Earlier in the week, chairman and founder of TPLF, Sebehat Nega, who holds no official position at the moment, warned that the country will fall apart if EPRDF fails to bring corrupt officials to justice. In an exclusive interview with the state run Addis Zemen newspaper, Sebehat Nega admitted that the EPRDF has never faced a crisis of this magnitude.

  1. This is excellent news that should be commended. There has been a lot of talk about rampant corruption by those close to officials with power. Those who decided to go after corruption, even though their dragnet may have some escape holes, must be encouraged for such bold action. The next thing for the source of this news is to come up with the list of those arrested for corruption. Corruption unless dealt with a lethal blow is like a lethal cancer that will eat away the soul of not only the regime but also the entire society. Just look at some of African, Asian and Latin American countries. Nigeria, Guinea, Angola, Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, you name it. Some of these countries have made rampant corruption a way of life. My list also includes some of the former Soviet satellite nations. All these nations have very high literacy rates and the only readily available career seems to be coming up with another fraudulent scheme. That has been one of my concerns about the old country, that the historically upright and generous people to see his children learning the art of duplicitous career and there is nothing can be about it. That has been my big time concern. Despots will come and go but in their departure they have a tendency of leaving behind remnants of their wicked malfeasance. Just look at what that demon Mengistu left behind. Some of his hand picked cadres are now members and leaders who are madly fit to liberate my own Oromo people. What I heard and still hearing is some of these leaders of ‘rights’ advocacy groups used to sing and write plays glorifying Mengistu’s demonic acts when he butchered the cream puff of the country calling them ‘anarchists, CIA hirelings, children of the old emperor’. When someone told me such shameful backgrounds of these individuals among us, I asked him for ocular evidence and he showed some old videos on VHS tapes. What a shame? I was so disgusted.

  2. It is good to act on corruption as it is one of the problem of the country. But as it is said “gmash lichu gmash gofere” does not take us anywhere. The corrupt and the rotten are the top TPLF leaders one of them being Sbhat Nega who has collected a lot of money including the hotel for his concubine in the center of Mekale. TPLF is more than corrupt, they are torturers jailers killers and genocidal. They should be asked for all these not only corruption.
Torture for torturers and death for killers or murders.

    The truth will prevail.

  3. But arresting few people can not stop corruption. There is must be law and media that works against corruption, bribery, … arresting will not eliminate corruption. There must be clear penal code inscribed in the constitution that has no mercy or tolerance to Musna. Law, law, constitution …

  4. We all know who the biggest thieves are.TPLF officials, cadres and families have been stealing the nation’s wealth from the get go.
Sebhat nega is not fit to criticize EPDRF as his TPLF is the main culprit behind daylight robbery .
unless we see corrupt TPLF officials investigated or sent behind bars, this is just the usual TPLF gimmick.

  5. What a Joke, Out of all the People the Mafia Grand father of TPLF Master of theft-corruption-CHIEF OF Ethno-Centerism.
    ATO Sebhat Nega
His final drama is to play by the man himself.Sebhat Nega: both as an Arsonsit and firefighter

  6. Would the source of this encouraging news please get the list of those arrested on this esteemed website? Along with their profession, of course.
