The resurrection of medieval brutality and acts of genocides against the Amhara and Orthodox Christians manifested by Abiy Ahmed Ali and his Lieutenants the Oromo Liberation Front. We have assumed living in the and 21st era of human civilization, perceiving the world is far better than what it was a century ago. Ethiopia is one of the oldest countries in the world, in fact, if we consider an account of modern science with a finding of an Archeology, Anthropology, and Paleontology Ethiopia is the oldest and home of an original human ancestors We are wondering why this oldest country has remained poor and in decline. I may have to postulate that no other country on earth has gone through wars and conflicts as old as its history as Ethiopia, nevertheless there are some reasons.
In 15th century, Ahmed Ibn Ibrihm Gragn known as “the left-handed man” was a jihadist of 1529-1543 and he had no other than being an extremist without ideological motives of present-day political philosophy. He was well known of mass slaying particularly of Christians. He was born in Eastern part of Ethiopia in a vicinity of today’s Somalia. His ethnicity is not clear; some say he was an Adal; others say he was a Somali. I believe further research needed.
Imam Ahmed Gragn a radical extremist had massacred Christens indiscriminately and burned down churches. Though, he was marveled with the buildings of the Church when he reached the Amhara region and gathered his Arab soldiers; “Is there such beautiful buildings in Arab countries or anywhere else?” and his Arab fighting forces replied, “We have not seen or heard of such marvels buildings in Arabia, Iran and India”. He was very callous individual, he destroyed all the Churches, burned down into the ground, and looted gold and artifacts of antiquity. Well, buildings were not only his destruction, nothing is important than human lives, he murdered Orthodox believers in Shewa, Gojjam, Gondar, Tigray. An estimate of 80% to 90% of Orthodox Christens’ lives vanished. He forced individuals to be converted to Islam without their consent, and those refused to do so were massacred. This savage man armed with cannon, and modern rifles of the time supplied by an Ottoman empire (Turkey) and Arab countries, including foot soldiers. In contrary, Ethiopian Forces were fighting with shield and spears.
After Ahmed Gragn was killed around Lake Tana, his soldiers were disseminated. Concurrently, another group of invaders appeared from South through what is now Kenya. These nomadic group are called Galla (presently for unknown reasons, they like to be called Oromo). They have several sects. In general, they were pagans, they never farm, they depend on livestock. They were accustomed with territorial invasions, killing others, including cattle raiding. The men go through steps of hierarch. As he reaches manhood, must kill, and show his victim’s penis as a trophy to marry a girl.
This different sects of Galla eventually reached the Northern part of Ethiopia. They massacred and displaced populations; The Gafat society completely wiped out from Wellega. The Zely society around lake Zeway completely vanished, and many others are unaccountable. Presently, the Oromo fanatics are skirmishing to dislodge residences from Addis Ababa.
Their expansionism, through invasion and murder become habitual trend. Abiy Ahmed Ali is a king maker, and Jawar Mohamed and his followers had massacred hundreds without accountability. Abiy Ahmed Ali, Shimeles Abdisa, military officers, Abebch Abebb of Addis Ababa’s Mayor are well coordinated to lead a clandestine forces, well-trained army in a mafia style, in a divided group to carry on kidnaping, murder, including demanding ransom money.
What are the crimes of the Orthodox Church? The Monks and Priests to be slain in a coldblooded manner to dignifying humanity. They serve the almighty God, day in, and day out without demanding prize and compensations. They are praying for the wellbeing of all lives on earth. Are these crimes to lead to be slaughtering? The country is in a deep crisis with incompetent leadership of Abiy Ahmed Ali. The murder is not limited only to Christine; Moslem Amhara were slaughtered without remorse including children. In addition, there seems to be Wahhabism sects deeply rooted that is working in conjunctions with governments groups.
Finally, a new book “The Paralysis of Ethiopia or “ኢትዮጵያዊው መፃጒዕ” by Ayele Tadesse Balcha (Dr.). has been released. It is eye-opening for many Ethiopians to read. I have a chance to glance through, and for a layperson for economics, is easy to read and understand how the country get into a current mess. And it is also fascinating to review Abba Bahrey’s book, a late 1500s monk who was a Gamo, witnessed the barbaric acts of the Galla.

Throughout my adult life since the late 1960’s, I have witnessed discourses regarding the old country going senseless and tasteless but I have not read any of them to be as reckless as this one. What was this writer thinking? Did he have his mind when he skin scratched this pile of bovine scatology? It is upsetting and above all it saddens me to my core. It is doubly saddening that it is given a space on a public forum.
Time and again, with restrain, I keep reading unfair ill-witted half stories from this ‘Zehabesha’ Website. I am from gteater Somalia and i can attest you have no background iota of Ethiopia’s own history let alone the Somalis….While, Somalis run their history since Pharaoah time, you insist, without data, to publish your habitual lies for ignorant people to swallow hook, bait and line…. while trying to also twist Adal and Somali as being different is seriously being diotic….Adal is currently Awdal and Ahmed Gureey was as somali as myself. Calling Oromos as murderous when previous Amhara dictators, Haile Sellasie and Mengistu annihilated Oromos doesn’t count either…. so when you were murdering Somalis and Oromos…were you also a Wahaabi?….btw, do you know what Wahhabi is…you still listens to those fake Eastern European Refugees pretending to be Jewish….Somalis care less of Those ‘suckers’ as well as ‘scumbags’….in all their colours…Learn !!!

2) The proper name is “Amir Imam Ahmed Ibrahim”. ‘Ahmed Gragn’ is a derogatory name. ‘Amir’ is the title of kings of ‘Emirate of Harar’. ‘The Emirate of Harar’ was an independent country before it was conquered by Nigus Minelik of Shawa on January 6, 1887. ‘Imam’ is a title given to an Islamic religious scholar. ‘Ahmed’ is his first name. ‘Ibrahim’ is his middle name.
3) His birthplace is called “Dakar”, 5 Km away from the City of Harar.
4) His ethnicity is ‘Harari’
5) ‘Adaal’ is not ethnicity but a dynasty named after ‘Amir Abdaal’, king of ‘Emirate of Harar’ and founder of Adaal dynasty.
6) The fight between Abyssinian highlanders and Muslim lowlanders did not start during Atse Libnedingil & Imam Ahmed but 500 before them during Amir Abadir and Axumite era.
7) Imam Ahmed was killed by Portuguese solder in Tigray, not near Lake Tana.

You need to argue with them so the facts would be written correctly. I am not a historian, but a scientist. I can bring facts for science to argue but I can not for history. The best advice for you, write or bring your concern to historian. Above all, I emphasis that Ahemed Gragn was a murderer and known killer. But it was a past ancient history. It is better to think for the current and future of the Ethiopian people to live in peace with each other.
Very wrong comparison. Ahmed Gragn was a religiously consistent as much as we can see and external to the Ethiopian state (and consequently not treasonous).
