Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie’s gift to Atatürk was displayed for the first time

The gifts that Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie presented to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s mausoleum, Anıtkabir during his 1967 visit to Turkiye, were shared by the Turkiye-Ethiopia Friendship Platform for the first time in 56 years.

The Turkiye-Ethiopia Friendship Platform, which was established to promote the long-standing friendship, trade, tourism and cultural richness between Turkiye and Ethiopia, shared photos and videos of Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie’s visit to Turkey in 1967 and 1971.

Mr. Oğuz Atalay, President of Turkiye-Ethiopia Friendship Platform who stated that Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie conducted research on Ankara and Istanbul visits in 1967 and 1971, especially Haile Selassie presented to the Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic. He said he made an effort to see the gifts and share them.

Mr. Oğuz Atalay, President of Turkiye-Ethiopia Friendship Platform met with the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Turkiye and obtained special permission to see the gifts that are not publicly displayed in the Anıtkabir museum.

The silver wreath symbolized by the two large rose branches that Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie left on the mausoleum during his visit to the Anıtkabir 56 years ago, the painting containing the Emperor’s own photograph as a gift, and the Emperor’s writing in the Anıtkabir private notebook were shared for the first time.

Mr. Oğuz Atalay, President of Turkiye-Ethiopia Friendship Platform who stated that he has made it a mission to contribute to all kinds of bilateral relations with the awareness that Turkey has a strong and permanent partnership with Ethiopia, said that the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam built by Ethiopia is also from Turkey. noted that they were the organization that gave the loudest support.

It is also known that the Turkiye-Ethiopia Friendship Platform has delivered food and hygiene packages to approximately one thousand Ethiopian citizens living in Turkey during the Covid19 period, and that some Ethiopian citizens who are not in good economic condition have given house rent assistance.
