Abiy appoints anti-corruption czar as deputy civil service commissioner

MARCH 16, 2022 /AS

Abiy Ahmed appointed Tsega Arage as the deputy commissioner of the civil service commission. Tsega Arage was the commissioner of the Federal Ethics & Anti Corruption Commission replacing the former commissioner Ayelgn Mulualem two years ago. The PM also appointed Dr. Nigussie Mitiku as the Director-General of the Ethiopian Management Institute (EMI).

Tsega, who was a central committee member of the Amhara Prosperity Party, was at the center of public debate after he wrote a six page letter on 04 March this year and addressed it to the Prosperity Party (PP) Control and Inspection Commission. His letter exposed a litany of irregularities of the bylaws within the ruling Prosperity Party, including violations of its financial and asset mismanagement procedures such as the party’s loan mechanisms to party members, and violations of the national electoral laws by failing to convene the general assembly, among others.

Tsega also accused the APP branch office leadership of sharing among themselves party finance amounting to ETB60 million, as well as illegal disbursement of the party’s finance amounting to more than ETB100 million. He also noted the ruling Prosperity Party’s violation of the national electoral laws by failing to convene the general assembly, blaming the rampant mismanagement of assets and finances inside the Amhara branch of PP due to the ruling party’s Central Committee failure to convene and endorse the party’s annual budget for the current fiscal year.

Tega’s letter has prompted the Amhara Prosperity Party to relieve several party members that are accused of violating the party’s financial and asset management regulations during loans management and admitted that the party’s financial and asset management system was violated.

However, Tsega has not been included in the newly restructured organ of the ruling party’s 222 Central Committee members. And it is not clear why he was being replaced from his position at the federal Anti-Corruption Commission, a position he held since March 2020. Tsega was appointed by the Ethiopian House of Peoples’ Representatives (HoPR) with 11 MPs voting in opposition while six MPs, of the 285 in attendance, abstained from voting. Back then, he was applauded as a new anti-corruption czar.

Tsega has previously served as an advisor to the deputy mayor of Addis Abeba. He also assumed two positions in the Amhara regional government as the administrator of the North Wollo zone and the head of the Amhara regional state rural land administration & utilization office.

Today’s appointment by PM Abiy came a day after Wazema radio reported that 23 government officials, ranging from senior and lower-ranking,  are being investigated for allegedly hiding assets of inconspicuous sources. The news outlet cited sources from the Ministry of Justice and stated that the federal Attorney General office has launched criminal investigations against the 23 officials that are suspected of amassing assets from unknown sources.

According to the report, the Attorney General’s office found an unregistered large amount of assets including in cash while looking into the federal ethics and anti-corruption commission’s list of registered assets owned by government officials.

  1. Let’s wish this countryman success in his new assignment. Now catch and throw those bums out and clip their sticky fingers!! Watch now! If one of these grand larcenist manage to get away and come here, to Europe or Oceania we gonna find him deafening us with ‘Abiy brutality’. He will tell us he is being picked on just because he is an Amhara by an ‘Oromo dominated’ regime or he will be seen strolling the streets in our cities and barking like a lying dog with ‘I am prosecuted just because I’m an Oromo and Abiy’s PP is a neftegna run government’. They will chicken scratch ‘memoire’ spilling some beans of what they know about the internal activities of the government they were hand gloves with. Their memoire will shoot up on the best sellers list. Then YouTube, FaceBook and Twitter accounts will follow while application for ‘political asylum’ is being well edited up! So gullible we are both these two will find sympathetic audience. Just a few weeks ago they were trusted officials and now they will be ‘political refugees’. You just watch!!! You’re all forewarned!!!!

  2. Foolishly enough, so many of us were crazy about the ‘courage’ by this good for nothing cadre as if he did a historic and heroic thing to expose the criminal ruling circle which himself has been and continued to be part and parcel . Now here he goes as a Mr. commissioner and of course serving the criminal ruling party with his fullest capacity of loyalty . These kinds of very self- disgraceful cadres have never and will never have any real sense of what a real meaning of standing for truth is ! They just bark like a big cowardice dog bark and try to make themselves look like lions but go back to their very political lives of continuing to be parts and parcels of the politics of garbage out and garbage in . To my understanding, these types of political personalities are much more deceiving and dangerous than their masters !! Sadly idiotic!!!

  3. Bravo Abiy! He won the gamble again. Even Ethio-360 swallowed the bait this time. Tsega Arage was masterfully used by Abiy to expose ANDM, purge the party and blackmail the exposed into submission.
Tsega should be congratulated for his stellar role in the birthing of a one-man dictatorship. Had he been genuine, he would have mate the fate of one of those luminaries we saw buried in an orthodox cemetery in the past four years.

This is the qumar that Shimelis was referring to and the people seem to be losing each time.

  4. My bone freezes when I hear these brutal functionaries of the state who are serving the new tyrannical regime visiting the country today. Dictatorship and dictatorship are now the new norms as these boneless tyrants swallow each other through brutal killings, poisoning, banishment, and other forms of tyrannical rule. Nothing will last of value as these tyrants butcher each other one way or another and those at the top of the Ponzi scheme of power are in a hurry to build a new apartheid power structure. The humble people of Ethiopia will once again be witnesses to this fake show. staged by the ruling group.
