Kios Man Abiy Ahmed has put forward a peace mediation proposal for Sudan, which brings to attention the unexpected elements and difficulties that are part of the process. Delving into the Unexpected: Kiosman Abiy Ahmed’s Unrevealed Peace Mediation Proposal for Sudan.
Sudan has been embroiled in conflict for decades, with issues ranging from political instability to ethnic strife and economic hardships. The need for a comprehensive and sustainable peace agreement has never been more pressing. In this context, Abiy Ahmed’s initiative represents a bold and proactive step toward resolving the longstanding issues in Sudan.
Abiy Ahmed arranges a discussion between two leaders, while the Sudanese army persists in accusing the UAE of providing weapons and financial support to its adversary.
The Chief of the Sudanese army, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, engaged in a phone conversation with the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mohammed Bin Zayed, on Thursday. This call was facilitated and organized by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, as reported by various Sudanese and diplomatic sources to Middle East Eye.
Abiy’s involvement in mediating the phone call came after his visit to Port Sudan to hold discussions with Burhan. The conversation took place in the context of a significant $817 million bilateral currency swap agreement between the UAE Central Bank and the National Bank of Ethiopia.
The initial dialogue between the two heads of state occurred for the first time since June 2023, when the Sudanese military accused the UAE at the UN Security Council of supplying weapons and backing the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), with whom the army has been in conflict since April 15 of the previous year.
A reliable source within the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) informed MEE that the phone conversation was suggested during Abiy’s recent visit to Port Sudan. During this trip, Burhan accompanied Abiy around Sudan’s wartime capital with only one interpreter present, leading to speculation that the discussions between the leaders, both seasoned in civil war combat, were highly confidential. “While Abiy Ahmed was visiting, he managed to persuade Burhan to alleviate tensions with the UAE, emphasizing that this was also the wish of the Emirati leadership, including the ruler Mohammed bin Zayed,” disclosed the source with close ties to the military.
The Sudanese Sovereignty Council announced in a statement to the media that Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed conveyed the UAE’s intention to assist in ending the conflict in Sudan during their phone conversation.
Burhan conveyed to him that the Sudanese people have accused the UAE of supporting the rebels (Janjaweed), assisting in the killing of Sudanese citizens, causing destruction in their country, and displacing them, with substantial evidence. He made a plea for the UAE to put an end to these actions. As per the Emirati news agency’s account of the conversation between Burhan and MBZ, the ruler of Abu Dhabi has stated that the UAE is committed to supporting efforts aimed at resolving the crisis in Sudan. Additionally, he expressed the UAE’s eagerness to back all proposed solutions and initiatives that aim to de-escalate the situation and bring an end to the crisis in Sudan, in a manner that contributes to the country’s stability and security, and fulfills the aspirations of its people.
There seems to be a difference of opinion within the Sudanese army regarding how to approach the UAE. Yasser al-Atta, the assistant commander-in-chief of the SAF, recently referred to MBZ as the “devil of the Arabs”, in what is believed to have been a deliberate move to preempt the conversation with Burhan.
In a public speech in Omdurman, Atta openly criticized the UAE in November. He stated, “We have information from intelligence, military intelligence, and the diplomatic circuit that the UAE sends planes to support the Janjaweed,” referring to the RSF by the name of the militias from which it emerged.
According to US estimates, the ongoing war in Sudan has resulted in the deaths of approximately 150,000 people over the past 15 months. Additionally, more than 10 million Sudanese have been displaced within the country, leading the United Nations to label it as the world’s worst displacement crisis.
Middle East Eye previously covered the significant assistance the UAE offers to the RSF via a series of supply routes passing through Libya, Chad, Uganda, and the Central African Republic. Despite this, the UAE persistently refutes allegations of arming and supplying the RSF, led by its longstanding ally Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemeti, a general and former Janjaweed commander.
. International human rights organizations have gathered “clear and convincing proof” that the RSF is engaging in genocide against “non-Arab groups” in Darfur, the extensive western area of Sudan that is now predominantly under the control of the paramilitary unit
.Amjed Farid, a former special adviser to the deposed Sudanese civilian government headed by Abdalla Hamdok, informed MEE that the phone conversation was “part of the UAE’s efforts to cleanse its reputation and alleviate global pressure on them for their backing and arming of the RSF.
“In actuality, this conversation alters nothing,” Farid stated. “Diplomatic courtesies through Abiy Ahmed with Burhan or others will not absolve the UAE of accountability for the actions of its associated militia in our nation.
“The devastation of our territory, the displacement of our people, and the atrocities unleashed by the militia – these are unforgettable and unpardonable offenses.”
On Tuesday, Ethiopia and the UAE disclosed a currency exchange agreement that regulators stated would “enhance the availability of liquidity in local currencies, facilitating an efficient settlement of cross-border transactions between the Emirates and Ethiopia.”
The nations also inked two preliminary agreements for the utilization of local currencies in settling cross-border transactions and for connecting their payment and messaging systems.
Kiosman Abiy Ahmed’s groundbreaking peace mediation initiative for Sudan offers a hopeful chance to tackle one of Africa’s longstanding conflicts with a fresh and inclusive strategy. Despite doubts about his own commitment to peace within Ethiopia, his proposal signifies a potential turning point for Sudan.
2. Nevertheless, the intricate nature of the situation highlights the challenges ahead. The success of this endeavor hinges on the dedication and collaboration of all involved parties, including stakeholders from Sudan and the global community. Only through united efforts can a lasting peace be achieved in the region.
Various Sudanese sources have reported that the conversation between Mohammed bin Zayed (MBZ) and Burhan was intended to be confidential, but the Emirati state news agency WAM disclosed it on Thursday. This unauthorized disclosure has led to conflicting narratives from the Sudanese army and the UAE regarding the content of the discussion and the initiator of the call. Despite the assumption that Burhan initiated the call, the Sudanese government aligned with the army has asserted that it was actually MBZ who made the call.

What is the point in this article? What are they trying to tell us about PM Abiy by calling him the ‘kiosman’, the term that does exist in the English language? Is that a coded word for bigoted Arabs favorite term for blacks, Al-abd? A nigger that is.
Above all what is wrong if anyone tries to bring peace in the slaughter house Sudan? USA, EU and others have been trying to mediate ceasefire and peace to that country since the bloodshed began. What is wrong with that. All such efforts should be commended and unanimously supported. Tens of thousands possibly more than a millions citizens has perished in this stupid conflict and millions have been driven out of their homes already. This is not funny, okay!!!
Yeah,just a way of saying
Kiosman’s lack of leadership knowledge, understanding, and respect for basic laws is evident through his actions. By consistently putting his personal interests above the welfare of his subordinates, he displays selfish and self-centered tendencies. Moreover, his failure to provide clear guidance often results in confusion among his followers.
