Ethiopian maid ends life inside toilet

August 17, 2013

An Ethiopian housemaid committed a suicide by hanging herself inside the bathroom at her employer’s house in the Gulf Kingdom, police said on Saturday.

The Saudi employer found the maid, in her 30s, hanging in the bathroom at his house in the eastern Saudi province of Ihsa, they said.

“Forensic examination showed the maid had committed a suicide,” Sabq daily said without mentioning the maid’s motives.

The incident is the latest in a wave of suicide attempts and deadly attacks on employers’ children by Ethiopian housemaids in Saudi Arabia, home to more than two million domestic workers from Africa and Asia.
