EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The sudden rhetoric about access to sea has angered Ethiopian neighbors, especially Eritrea. The main cause of the Ethio-Eritrean conflict stems from the lack of an institutional, peaceful, and negotiated outcome to the Eritrean war of independence. Since then, access to the sea has been Ethiopia’s prime preoccupation. Eritrea and Ethiopia may have been separated, but not yet divorced, suggesting that Ethiopia’s quest is legitimate, genuine, and real and the onus of its realization lies on the new generation.

Great power competition in the Red Sea can be examined through an economic-security nexus. Maritime security is the single most dominant shared objective of global and regional powers. The war on Gaza and the reaction of Iran and its proxies are posing intense security threats along the Red Sea shipping lanes.   1. A very instructive and comprehensive analysis of the geopolitical factors driving the impending war.

    The only thing I disagree with is the conclusion:
    “The international community is the only viable option that could pressurize both countries and their allies to avoid the looming war.”

    I believe this is a result of the “Mis-education of the Negro”. To place a deliverance call to the same entities and institutions that thrive on the crisis and exploitation of the THIRD WORLD could only be a result of such a brainwashing.

  2. It is inherently one’s god given right to have ACCESS to a seaport in proximity to bordering COUNTRIES, whether achieved Amicably or Through more forceful means.
    It seems unjust for one small country to leverage its deranged political hegemony at the expense of 130 million LIves
    EThiopia, i believe has both the legal and natural right to exercise its claims to this MATTER, and it is crucial that we advocate for fairness and mutual respectin these international matters.
