Somali Region Alliance for Justice (SRAJ) is disturbed by the callous killing of Tayasir Omer-Food Mohamed, a teenage Somali girl killed by the Liyu Police in Kebridahar town on 11 May 2018.
Tayasir was arrested and strangled to death by Liyu Police only a day after she arrived in the town from Jigjiga.
While the horrific killing of the young girl is repugnant, it is not, by any means, an isolated case but merely a continuation of a widespread and systematic extrajudicial killings and other violations committed by Tigrayan Generals and Abdi Iley against the People of Somali Region.
We condemn her murder in the strongest possible terms and wish to send our condolence to the family of Tayasir.
May she rest in peace and may Allah’s mercy be on the deceased.
