The People-to-People[P2P] President,  Governing Board and Nomination Committee and Peer Reviewers are  pleased to announce the selection of the distinguished  annual awards for excellence in health, socio-economic, cultural and social works, sciences, technology, public health, medicine allied health sciences, nursing and related development of quality of life and universal intergenerational legacy.    The criteria included successful models of comprehensive promotion and building of institution of higher learning criteria, among other social and technological sciences.

P2P  is a non-profit organization service  public and private sectors in Ethiopia and globally for the past twenty-five [25th] Its vision and mission is to prove comprehensive forums  to promote state of art about knowledge and evidence-based research and practice of health which are not  merely the absence of disease but also the socio-economic and cultural issues impacting peaceful coexistence interactions where people live and work worldwide.

The celebration of the twenty-fifth [25th] anniversary of the founding of P2P will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024,  at the Hilton Mark Center in Alexandria, Viginia, USA .The complete agenda includes medicine, population health,  technology, sciences, and research -based  practices on  p2pbdridge.org.  website. In addition, live presentation of the distinguished awards in  five categories  will be presented during the noon-lunch hours [12:00 PM-1:30]  according to New York Eastern Time. The nomination and recommendation have been peer-reviewed by distinguished Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia globally.

P2P is pleased to present the 2024  distinguished awards  to scholars, leaders, pioneers, and evidence-based research as follows

  1. LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENTS :Professor Mengesha Admasu,  M.D. MPH. BSc,  an  Emeritus President of Gondar University; Senior advisor of Academy of  Science, Ministry of Education, and President and chief  organizer of the Diamond 60th Celebration of the Gondar University,  as well as distinguished honor of receiving  twice Fulbright Scholarships at the Department of Biology in Howard University, Historically Black University and College  where Melaku Bayen became the  first Ethiopian Graduate from USA in 1935.  Moreover, he led  academic missions to strengthen accreditation and collaboration   in USA,  Europe, Africa and globally.  During his emeritus status he was   Director of the first Primary Care Center in collaboration with Johns Hopkins Bloomberg Department of International Health. He is an author of several books, P2P Manual of History of Medicine and Health,  as well his biography one of  the intergenerational legacies in  health sciences , primary care, and medicine in Ethiopia, Africa, Europe, USSR,  and globally.

RISING STAR ACHIEVEMENT:  P2P is honored to bestow the distinguished  Rising Star Annual Achievements Award 2024 on Associate Professor  and as the first female dean of the Addis Ababa  University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. A competitive opportunity  to excel in truth and service in  the history of medical, health sciences. Dr. Amal  is one of the outstanding health professionals that represented diversity, inclusiveness, equity and justice, that makes excellence belongs to us as well.

Dr. Amal Saleh, M.D. is acknowledged for her merit-based achievements not only in Ethiopian   Medical Education institutions of comprehensive research and teaching in  but also  in Africa and globally.  Her recognition  makes excellence of others belongs to us, a well.   The award is reserved for the  recognition of the successful intergenerational legacy based on diversity, inclusiveness, justice and gender equity based on merits.

The medical and health professional pioneers for this category  also represent the interdisciplinary achievement categories for recognition on this occasion. The awardees are also identified  by the success career pathways now and in the future.  P2P’s Twenty-fifth 25th year of sustainable intergeneration al legacy in 2024 is a shared success story  of continuous learning experience.

Dr. Amal has served as a partner and colleague who worked in the private and public sector s  in  medical and health professions in Ethiopia or the Diaspora as  Americans of Ethiopian origin.  She currently is engaged to raise the standards of accreditation of the AAU Medical School to secure excellence in medical education and membership leading member engaged in the accreditation of the Addis Ababa Medical School in collaboration with Professor Lekidelu Taddesse, M,D, of Howard University  Pathologist and Director of Laboratory Sciences of the  Howard University Hospital.  Professor Lekidelu or other P2P member will be available for citation and award  the full-day conference from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on October 19, 2024.

She performed self-study  for site visits and final review of the curriculum approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical education [LCMER] in the United.  The accreditation is a joint process leading to future admissions to the  residence and fellowship in USA.

Professor Amal Saleh Nour, M.D.  Professor Amal is the  First Female Dean of Addis Ababa University School of Medicine and Health Sciences .  The P2P Board, nomination committee and peer-reviewers her merits are based on actual pursuit of  Excellence in truth and service in public and private institutions of higher learning in Ethiopia and especially her  intergenerational legacy influencing  the equal opportunity, diversity, inclusiveness, equity and justice to serve people as first and health for all where they work and live in underserved populations in Ethiopia and globally.

Dr. Amal’s  achievements set a distinctive precedence  to institute innovative functional analysis of the curriculum and sustain  accreditation in collaboration of  the Ministry of Health,  Addis Ababa University and Ministry of Education and other partners in Ethiopia and worldwide.

Dr. Amal  has  served as a tenured professor of Radiology and  Radiology and Neuroradiologist at the university’s College of Health Sciences. Dr. Amal has a rich background at this state of successful career paths.  He has  a  wealth of experience in both clinical and comprehensive institutions  and related health sciences associations in Africa and pioneering leadership as a member of the Pioneer Diagnostic Center Pvt. Ltd. Co. and Addis Ababa University.

Dr. Amal has published articles and evidence-based sciences in peer-reviewed global journals.

Dr. Amal served as Vice President of the Ethiopian Medical Association.  As a pioneer in her medical profession, she became  the President of the Radiological Society of Ethiopia. Dr. Amal Saleh is committed to improving the needs for health is an affordable priority. Dr. Amal is a passionate advocate for patient where people live and work in diverse, inclusive using state of the arts medical care in Ethiopia.

Dr. Amal Saleh Dean is a highly accomplished radiologist and educator with over 15 years of experience. She is currently the Dean of the School of Medicine at Addis Ababa University, the premier medical school in Ethiopia. She is also an Assistant Professor of Radiology and Neuroradiologist at the university’s College of Health Sciences. Dr. Amal has a wealth of experience in both clinical and academic settings.

Dr. Amal has worked as a radiologist at Pioneer Diagnostic Center Pvt. Ltd. Co. and Addis Ababa University. She has also served as the Head of the Department of Radiology at both institutions. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Amal is also a passionate educator. She has taught medical students and residents at Addis Ababa University for over 8 years. She is also the author of several publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Amal participates actively in the Ethiopian Medical Association and is the association of vice president. She has also served as the President of the Radiological Society of Ethiopia. Dr. Amal Saleh is committed to improving the health of the Ethiopian people. She is a strong advocate for medical education and research. She is also a passionate advocate for patient care. She is a dedicated and compassionate physician who is committed to providing her patients with the best possible care.

  1. DISTINGUISHED COMMUNITY SERVICE AND INITIATIVE INTERGENRATIONAL LEGACY.

Professor Senait Fisseha, MD, JD: Champion for Global Health and Gender quality Professor Senait Fisseha is an internationally renowned leader in global public health, health equity, maternal and reproductive health and gender equality. Currently serving as the Vice President of Global Programs at the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, she spearheads global grantmaking in reproductive health, focusing on strengthening health systems and primary care to meet the needs of women and girls. Her innovative  approaches have fostered partnerships with African governments and have been pivotal in building robust public health institutions across the continent.

Since 2017, Professor Fisseha has also served as Chief Advisor to the Director General of the World Health Organization, playing a critical role in shaping global health policy. She is an active member of numerous prestigious advisory boards and committees, including co-chairing the Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA), a platform she helped establish in 2021. Her influence extends to key roles within WHO’s Council on the Economics of Health for All, co-chairing the WHO Director-General’s Expert Group on Cervical Cancer Elimination, and serving on the African Union COVID-19 Commission, Chatham House’s Commission for Universal Health, and the Lancet Commission on 21st Century Global Threats. Additionally, she contributes to the Lancet-SIGHT Commission on Peaceful Societies Through Health and Gender Equality, the Advisory Committee for the third Lancet Commission on Investing in Health and serves on the Harvard Ministerial Leadership Advisory Board and The World Bank Group’s Global Financing Facility Trust Fund committee.

A strong advocate for leveraging AI and technology, Professor Fisseha is determined to make healthcare accessible to the most marginalized and vulnerable populations, while also closing the digital divide between the developing and developed worlds. She serves on the steering committee of the Partnership for Digital Access in Africa (PDAA) and is the co-chair of the 2024 Global AI Summit on Africa, where she aims to harness technological innovations to improve healthcare access and health outcomes across the continent.

An accomplished Obstetrician and Gynecologist, Professor Fisseha previously held the position of Chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility at the University of Michigan, where she was also the Medical Director of the Center for Reproductive Medicine. As the founding Executive Director of the Center for International Reproductive Health Training  (CIRHT), she championed efforts to enhance reproductive health training in Ethiopia, expanding the program’s reach from one institution to nine others, and further extending its impact to several African countries.

Professor Fisseha’s commitment to workforce development is evident in her initiatives at St. Paul Hospital Millennium Medical College, where she has led efforts to scale up specialty and subspecialty training, empowering a new generation of healthcare professionals to meet pressing community needs. Her contributions to the University of Rwanda, King Faisal Teaching Hospital and The Ministry of Health of Rwanda underscore her impact on regional capacity building,  establishing robust training programs and fostering partnerships to bridge the gap between theory and practice.                                        Professor  Senait’s  tireless advocacy for workforce development in Africa stands as a testament to her dedication to health equity. Professor Fisseha’s work transforms individual lives and strengthens entire health systems, making her a key architect of sustainable development across the continent.

Professor Fisseha’s accomplishments have garnered widespread recognition. She was named one of the 100 Most Influential Africans (2018) by New African magazine and recognized among the  100 Most Influential People in Gender Policy (2019) and as one of the top forty most forward-

thinking women (2020) by Athena40. Her accolades include the Ethiopian Ministry of Health’s highest award, the University of Michigan’s Bicentennial Alumni Award, and the 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, as well as the 2020 and 2021 Distinguished Alumni Awards from Southern Illinois University. In 2023, she received the prestigious Award of Merit in Entrepreneurial Leadership from African Leadership University for her remarkable contributions to global health, her advocacy for reproductive rights and gender equality, and her pivotal role during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, she was honored with the 2023 “African Women of the Year” Award by the African Leadership Network.

Born in Ethiopia, Professor Fisseha pursued her education in the United States, earning both medical and law degrees. After living in the U.S. for over three decades, she returned to Africa in 2020, driven by a passion for creating sustainable health solutions and advancing the rights of women and girls. Professor Fisseha holds dual citizenship of the United States and Rwanda.

Professor Senait Fisseha’s unwavering dedication to health equity and transformative leadership solidifies her status as a key architect of sustainable development in Africa. Her work continues to inspire change and uplift communities, ensuring that the health needs of women and girls are prioritized on the global stage.

  1. DISTINGUISED INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGY AND  MEDICINE:  Professor Electron Kebebew MD,  FACS,   a Harry Oberhelman , Jr. and Mark L. Welton and Surgery and member of Cancer Institute in  Stanford University, California. He is a member of general surgery, Bio-X and Stanford University.   He is a distinguished  international pioneer and technologist in Endocrine Oncology. He is one of most involved scientists who served as American of Ethiopian origin who pioneered procedures, authored and  co-authored articles and chapters in books and editor of journal articles.  He has performed hundreds of lectures and served as visiting interdisciplinary professor and conferences.  An author of hundreds of scientific articles and  over 40 book chapters. He has received tens of thousands grants and funds to deliver phenomenal numbers of surgeries in his specialty locally and internationally.

  1. OUTSTANDING INTERGENERATIONAL LEGACY AND COMMITMENT TO INCLUSIVE AND EQAUITY VISION .   Berhanu Tafesse, a graduate and former instructor of Jimma University is one the distinguished engineers at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in this 21stcentury. The appreciation and award is a shared recognition of Dr. Tsega Solomon, PhD   in Biochemistry at the National Institute of Standard and Technology who spent time to assist him to  finalize the hope spirit project and risk involved to achieve the status of pioneering  and critical thinkers to hope a flight-ready laser for NASA’s Artemis program  is unique opportunity for an Ethiopian engineer living and working  in the United States.

Dr. Berhanu’s constructive engagement with space sciences aimed to inform and improve  the values of  inclusive and diverse discovery that make  environmental  curiosity makes  intergenerational  and gender equity’s legacy belongs to the Space Sciences. By his actions and love of his former  faculty position, as well as being an alumni of Jimma University.

Dr. Berhanu’s homecoming exemplified equal opportunity for the first generation in college is a common good to share  inclusive and diversity with compassion for the underserved populations is an indigenous values we learned form intergenerational legacy.

The speech to his compatriots in Jimma concludes with his astounding study in engineering.   His remark:  “ Without water there can be no life. Whether humans are on the Earth or elsewhere in the universe, that axiom remains the same.”  It has been said we made everything living faith about peaceful coexistence.

“Nasa’s Artemis 1 rocket was finally launched in September 2024 making the start of an ambitious space exploration program that is designed to take humans that is similar to the first attempt in July 16, 1969 back to the moon and beyond.  “

P2P  is honored to bestow the intergenerational legacy  award and space engineering  in 2024 as inclusive and diverse vision to make the space and moon accessible using water science as one of the  reasons   for habitation of  human beings.
