Ethiopia’s Orthodox Christians are celebrating Christmas with prayers for peace

January 7, 2025

Ethiopians observe Christmas with great fervor, demonstrating a profound commitment to their Orthodox Christian faith. Despite ongoing efforts to undermine Orthodox Christianity in the country, which include violent acts against its adherents and the promotion of the Protestant Prosperity Gospel by televangelists such as Kenneth Copeland, the resilience of Orthodoxy has only strengthened.

The challenges faced by the Orthodox community have not diminished their devotion; rather, they have galvanized a deeper sense of identity and purpose among believers. The celebration of Christmas serves as a testament to this enduring faith, as Ethiopians come together to honor their traditions and spiritual heritage.

In the face of adversity, the Orthodox Church in Ethiopia continues to thrive, with its followers steadfast in their beliefs. The juxtaposition of external pressures and internal fortitude highlights the remarkable ability of the Orthodox community to maintain its cultural and religious practices, ensuring that the essence of their faith remains vibrant and unyielding.
