This joint submission, presented by the Coordination des Associations et des Particuliers pour la Liberté de Conscience (CAP LC) and Stop Amhara Genocide, seeks to draw attention to the severe human rights violations and ongoing genocide against the Amhara people in Ethiopia. The Amhara, one of the largest ethnic groups in the country, have been subjected to systematic attacks, mass killings, forced displacement, and discrimination across different regions.

Despite the gravity and extent of these atrocities, the Ethiopian government has failed to adequately respond to the situation. There are reports of complicity, inaction, and suppression of dissenting voices. The lack of accountability and the impunity enjoyed by the perpetrators have worsened the plight of the Amhara community.

This report meticulously documents the widespread abuses faced by the Amhara people, including massacres, ethnic cleansing, mass displacements, and the deliberate targeting of their cultural and religious identity. It emphasizes the urgent need for intervention by the international community to safeguard the rights of the Amhara and to hold those responsible for the genocide accountable.

CAP LC, a non-religious European organization dedicated to safeguarding human rights, and Stop Amhara Genocide, an advocacy group focused on putting an end to the genocide of the Amhara people in Ethiopia, have joined forces to make this submission. Their joint goal is to increase awareness about the current human rights emergency and urge the United Nations Human Rights Council and the global community to promptly address this critical situation.

We urge the Ethiopian government to recognize the genocide, conduct an impartial inquiry, prosecute those responsible, and establish preventive measures to avoid future atrocities. Additionally, we implore the global community to back these endeavors and contemplate stronger measures if Ethiopia refuses to cooperate.

The existence and basic rights of the Amhara community are in jeopardy, and it is vital for the international community to pay attention and respond promptly to halt this calamity. The Universal Periodic Review offers a vital opportunity to tackle these issues and ensure that Ethiopia fulfills its human rights responsibilities.
