During a heated African Cup of Nations qualifier, controversy erupted after Egyptian fans were caught using laser pointers to distract Ethiopia’s goalkeeper. Television footage and images circulated widely on social media showed bright green beams directed at the Ethiopian shot-stopper during crucial moments of the match.

The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) condemned the act, describing it as unsportsmanlike behavior that endangered player safety and compromised the fairness of the game. In response, the EFF has officially filed a formal complaint to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), demanding an investigation and possible sanctions against Egypt.

Laser pointer incidents have been a recurring problem in international football, with CAF and FIFA previously warning host nations about crowd control and fair play responsibilities. The Ethiopian side insists that stronger disciplinary measures are needed to prevent similar acts in future matches.

CAF is expected to review the complaint in the coming days.

  1. Those demented fans were not only using laser pointer at the Ethiopian players they were also chanting racial slurs. I have been scouring through their newspapers some of those reporting were disgusted at the behavior of these KKK wannabes. One comment I read was that the fans were chanting ‘baeedis’ a shortened racial slur for ‘you niggers’. ‘Bid, bid, bid’ was heard among the crowd which reminds us what racist crowd was deep chanting ‘nig, nig, nig’ whenever that first black football player catches the ball way back 75 years ago. FIFA must look into this and teach those superpower wannabes a bitter lesson or two. What will be next for these bigots? Dropping deadly poisonous chemical canisters over Addis/Finfine? You remember they had done that on their own fellow Arabs in the then North Yemen during the years 1963-1967. Also, it must be known that Egypt(along with North Korea) is not a signatory of Chemical Weapons Convention of 1993.
