*EPRP’s press release urging the immediate release of political prisoners*
Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Party-EPRP has learnt that many of the political prisoners, and prisoners of Conscience, incarcerated for far too long under inhumane conditions, and in flagrant violations of the Law of the land, as well as in contravention of all legal norms, are now on hunger strike starting from Ethiopia’s New Year’s Eve in their prison cells in Kilinto.
From more than 300 political prisoners detained throughout the country; H.E. Mr. Christian Tadele, Mr. Yohannes Buayalew, Mr. Taye Dendea, Ass.Professor Sisay Awgchew, Journalist Dawit Begashaw, Journalist Sisay Gobezie, Dr. Wondwossen Assefa, Dr. Tewodros Hailemariam, Dr. Chanie Kebede, Merigeta Belay Adamu, Dr. Kassa Teshager, Meskerem Abera, Journalist Genet Asmamaw; are some prominent journalists and politicians who did nothing but defend their people and their truth.
Regarding their malnourished and emaciated bodies, many of them with untreated sicknesses and neglected medical conditions, we strongly believe that their lives are in grave danger.
EPRP therefore appeal to all conscientious:-
1. Leaders of legal Ethiopian opposition political parties,
2. Ethiopian Human Rights officials and workers,
3. Leaders of Ethiopian civic organizations and professional associations,
4. Diplomats stationed in Ethiopia and thru them their
respective governments,
5. Human Rights Officials and their organizations,
6. Religious leaders,
7. Ethiopian academics, public intellectuals and elders; to act immediately, and do whatever they can, to save the lives of the Ethiopian prisoners on hunger strike.
Our recommended actions are:
1. To visit the prisoners on hunger strike in Kilinto prison
2. To contact relevant Ethiopian government officials and appeal for the immediate release of the prisoners in question
3. Publicize the plight of the prisoners on social media and more
4. Support the much afflicted family members of the prisoners both morally and materially.
Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Party – EPRP would like to promise that its long standing solidarity with political prisoners will remain even stronger and that we will do everything possible to help with the situation.
