Biden has announced his decision to exit the race and throw his support behind Harris

July 22, 2024

Vice President Kamala Harris has already secured important endorsements from senators, House members, and governors. President Biden’s choice to withdraw from the race and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris could have a substantial impact on the political arena. This decision would unite Democratic backing for Harris, possibly lessening internal rivalry and directing party assets towards her campaign. Additionally, it would underscore a powerful endorsement from a current president, potentially providing a significant advantage in the election.

President Biden made a public announcement that he will not be running for reelection and has decided to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for the upcoming election. This unexpected move has set off a unique process for the Democratic party to find a replacement for Biden just months before the election.

In a letter to the American people shared on social media, Mr. Biden expressed that serving as president has been the greatest honor of his life, and while he had intended to seek reelection, he believes it is in the best interest of the party and the country for him to step down and focus on fulfilling his duties as president for the remainder of his term.

Vice President Harris confirmed her intention to seek the party’s nomination and expressed her determination to earn and win the party’s support in a written statement. Following Biden’s endorsement, prominent Democratic figures such as Bill and Hillary Clinton, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and California Governor Gavin Newsom have voiced their support for Harris to be the nominee. However, others like former President Barack Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have praised Mr. Biden but have not yet endorsed Harris or any other candidate.

The Democratic National Convention’s delegates will have the final say in determining the party’s nominee. It is anticipated that Democrats will conduct an early virtual roll call vote to officially nominate a candidate on August 1, several weeks ahead of the convention scheduled to commence in Chicago on August 19.

Following a lackluster performance in the initial presidential debate at the end of June, Mr. Biden made the decision to withdraw from the race, prompting doubts within his party about his ability to defeat Trump in the upcoming election and serve another term. 3. As pressure mounted for him to step down, an increasing number of Democratic leaders and lawmakers openly discussed the possibility of replacing him on the ticket.

In a recent phone conversation with CBS News’ Robert Costa, Former President Donald Trump expressed his belief that facing Vice President Harris instead of President Biden would not alter the course of the race, stating that the policies would remain unchanged regardless of the opponent.

Additionally, Trump suggested that the upcoming presidential debate should be hosted by Fox News instead of ABC News, which was originally slated to hold the debate in September. Stay tuned for live updates on the response to Mr. Biden’s decision to step aside and the ensuing developments.

  1. I told you this election is gonna be very interesting. But we should all cast our votes on what it matters to us most domestically. Don’t buy into all these conniving conspiracy theories that are flying off the shelves in every direction.
