Amhara Fano News Report

The Amhara Fano National Force (AFANF) has issued a strong call for Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s federal army to withdraw from the Amhara region. The group emphasized that a peace agreement must be reached to ensure that educational institutions are freed from the political activities and interference of the military.

AFANF stressed that the presence of armed forces in schools and universities has undermined the learning environment, politicized education, and created fear among students and staff. The organization insists that safeguarding education from political and military influence is an urgent priority.

The demand comes at a time when the situation in Amhara remains tense, with continued reports of clashes and restrictions. According to AFANF, resolving the crisis through dialogue and peaceful settlement will prevent further instability.

The issue has drawn the attention of the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), and the African Union (AU), all of whom are closely monitoring the developments. International actors have repeatedly urged for a de-escalation of conflict and the protection of civilian institutions in Ethiopia.

AFANF reaffirmed its commitment to defend the rights of the Amhara people and called upon the government to respond responsibly by prioritizing peace over militarization.
