Former Three Lions chief feels Gunners boss is ideal choice Sven Goran Eriksson has tipped Arsene Wenger as a possible successor to Fabio Capello as England manager.
Capello is set to leave the role after the end of Euro 2012, should England qualify, and speculation will be rife over the coming months about the man to replace him.
The likes of Harry Redknapp and Roy Hodgson have been mentioned as possible candidates amid the clamour for an Englishman to be appointed into the tole
Most of the mainstream media seems to believe that Harry Redknapp’s appointment is a mere formality, but Eriksson believes the Arsenal manager could be an alternative.
“Whatever the nationality of the coach, he has a difficult time if you don’t reach the semi-final,” Eriksson told The Times.
Quarter-finals were not good enough! I don’t know what [the FA] are going to do, who they will take.
“Reporters talk about [Harry] Redknapp as the people’s choice and I’m quite sure if they could get Wenger, they would take him.
Adaptable
“Arsene Wenger can adapt to everything. I mean, he lives for football and his family.
“If you consider him foreign [after his 15 years in England], I don’t know.
“When I was there, that was a big issue, all the time more or less, because I was the first foreigner. But that’s gone, I think. Then they went back to an English manager and that didn’t work out, so they appointed a foreign manager.”
