The United States, in collaboration with the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) and USAID, has allocated an additional $154 million to support the humanitarian response in Ethiopia, addressing critical needs arising from conflict, insecurity, and climate-related challenges. This funding includes over $19 million from PRM specifically designated for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other humanitarian partners to aid refugees and other vulnerable populations across Ethiopia, bringing the total U.S. humanitarian assistance in the country to nearly $243 million since the start of Fiscal Year 2024.

The contributions from PRM to UNHCR and other partners will facilitate the delivery of vital services such as protection, shelter, water, sanitation, hygiene, and mental health support to refugees residing in Ethiopia, as well as internally displaced Ethiopians. With Ethiopia currently hosting close to 1 million refugees, making it the third-largest refugee population in Africa, the need for assistance is paramount. Since 2023, Ethiopia has received over 130,000 new refugees and asylum-seekers escaping conflicts in Sudan and Somalia.

As the primary humanitarian donor in Ethiopia, the United States reaffirms its commitment to supporting refugees seeking shelter in the country. It calls upon other donors to join in providing assistance to UNHCR and other humanitarian organizations striving to aid the most vulnerable individuals impacted by conflicts and other emergencies across the region.

  1. Good Ole USA once more at its finest! I have told you umpteen times what those two hoodlums in Moscow and Beijing are doing in the meantime. One is driving that patriot H.E. Ahmed Shide up the wall nagging him with ‘Where is money, first the interest part of it?’ The other one is dumping his AK-47’s RPG’s, APC’s, T72’s and SU-29’s at discount price worth billions! Hey yo’all Putin’s brown-nosers!!! Take a friggin’ walk!!!
