ETHIOPIA: INFLATION RISES TO 8.2 PER CENT IN FEBRUARY

Ethiopia’s inflation upped to 8.2 per cent in February due to higher prices of food items such as vegetables, fruit and meat, reports Central Statistics Agency (CSA) today.

The general inflation for the month of January was 7.7 per cent while inflation for food items was lower at 7.1 per cent. February, however, observed a rise in the inflation for food items to 9.6 per cent. The non-food inflation rate on the other hand dropped to 6.8 per cent in February from 8.2 percent in January.
According to the CSA overall inflation in Ethiopia averaged 18.69 per cent from 2006 to 2015, reaching an all time high of 64.20 per cent in July of 2008.
