Anti-Ethiopian articles by Western/British Media

January 24, 2021

Why do all negative statements about Ethiopia seem to start from England?

It was always the case Aljazeera have been a media that has nothing good to say about Ethiopia. Now days, have you noticed all negative statement and attacks on Ethiopia starts from London, England and takes root on the world stage? I am baffled as to what the interest of England is on creating negative image on Ethiopia and how they would benefit from chaos in Ethiopia?

I have always considered England was a friend to Ethiopia, I no longer believe it to be true and any expression of interest on behest of England should be viewed with suspicion. If the attack was just from media based in London such as Reuters, The Economist and other media; I would have excused it as free media expressing their point of view.

However, please observe, it goes beyond the media, “Impartial Observers” such as Martin Plaut, senior research fellow in institute of commonwealth studies and William Davison are far from objective and stirring trouble from the start of the “Law enforcement mission” to now a dead cause of TPLF. Taking Martin Plaut agenda where he is labeling the ministry of peace as Orwellian as if to mean ministry of peace of Ethiopia is ministry of war, ignoring the fact TPLF started the conflict and all the request of peace by the ministry prior to the conflict were for not; and when the TPLF is in the cusp of disappearing he seems to be concerned about the wellbeing of our people. Please check his social media presence it seems his expertise is to divide and create a chaos in east Africa not just in Ethiopia. Then again don’t bother all he writes about are how to create internal conflict in all east African nations by pin pointing, admittedly, our own weakness which is nitpicking instead of unity. As for William Davison, it is a waste of time to explain how he is the mouth piece of TPLF and irrelevant for the issue of England’s bias for unlike Mr. Plaut he does not advice the government.

Furthermore, Britain was the main actor to push the issue to UN Security Council on Nov 24 2020, to interfere in the internal affairs of Ethiopialike the interference that has benefited Libya for the interest of Libyans?!; the other members, who brought their concern to UNSC, I believe, wanted the issue raised out of concern for the wellbeing of the country and the regional peace and security.

But when I look deep into the issue of England, it lacks genuine interest especially once one reads from the MP kate Osamor’s letter to secretary of state for foreign affairs, commonwealth and development affairs, on splitting the country in support of the seceding prior to the “Law Enforcement mission” on Nov 4 2020; the night the unprecedented attack on Ethiopian army was conducted on the dead of night by the TPLF, The letter seems as if the attack was already known by this MP and planning support before the issue of succession was raised.

In light of the above and I could detail on the explicit reporting being flamed in London but this article could not cover it so I leave it to the readers to notice from now on, one wonders why news coming from England so far has been mainly are negative towards Ethiopia? Just for the record the question is not rhetorical; I really do not understand what is to be gained by putting undue pressure on Ethiopia with exaggerated and false information? Please someone explain it to me

Most of the reports allege rape, massacre and more. Whether true or not, it looks bad for Ethiopia. The piece in the Guardian by Simon Tisdall, quoting Alex De Waal appears it was written by TPLF agents. Regardless, things look really bad and Ethiopia needs to do a better job to avoid tarnishing it’s reputation in the international arena by British and other media.
