Remember, remember Ethiopia in November
\nLet us remain united forever
\nBut the TPLF slaughter,\u00a0 forget never, Never, NEVER!\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

I respectfully ask all Ethiopians to observe a private moment of silence on November 17, 2021 in remembrance and honor all victims of TPLF massacres and terror.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

I REMEMBER THE TPLF MASSACRES OF NOVEMBER 2005<\/strong><\/p>\n

For Ethiopians, November is a month to remember. It is a month which will live in infamy.<\/p>\n

In November 2005<\/strong>, Ethiopians faced unspeakable horrors at the hands of the \u00a0Tigray People\u2019s Liberation Front (TPLF), a terrorist group that had captured power in \u00a01991.<\/p>\n

Following the parliamentary elections in May 2005, the late leader of the TPLF Meles Zenawi declared a state of emergency and ordered the massacre of hundreds of citizens who protested peacefully theft of that election by the TPLF.<\/p>\n

An official Inquiry Commission\u00a0<\/a>established by Zenawi documented 193 unarmed men, women and children demonstrating in the streets and scores of other detainees held in a high security prison were intentionally shot and killed by police and security officials. An additional 763 were wounded. That was only a partial count.<\/p>\n

Every November since 2007, I have written a consecratory (sanctifying) memorial in remembrance of the hundreds of innocent unarmed demonstrators massacred and maimed in the aftermath of the 2005 parliamentary election by the TPLF.<\/p>\n

In my first memorial tribute, \u201cRemember, the Ethiopian Martyrs of June and November, 2005 Forever!<\/a>\u201d,\u00a0written on November 17, 2007, exactly 14 years today<\/em>, I reminded my readers that it was their moral duty \u201cto bear witness for the dead and the living\u201d as Elie Weisel,\u00a0the Holocaust survivor and Nobel laureate, so nobly put it.<\/p>\n

I urged, \u201cWe must remember because we have \u2018no right to deprive future generations of a past that belongs to our collective memory. To forget would be not only dangerous but offensive; to forget the dead would be akin to killing them a second time.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

I REMEMBER THE TPLF MASSACRES OF NOVEMBER 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n

On the evening of\u00a0November 3, 2020<\/strong>, the TPLF mounted a coordinated attack on the Ethiopian National Defense Force Northern Command military bases in Tigray region.<\/p>\n

A TPLF leader\u00a0explained in meticulous detail<\/a>\u00a0how the TPLF tried to grab power using a \u201cblitzkrieg\/thunderbolt\u201d (\u201cmebreqawi\u201d) attack on the Federal Northern Command. The aim was to capture regional capitals and swiftly and triumphantly march on the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.<\/p>\n

The TPLF massacred several thousand federal and wounded and tortured many more.\u00a0 The Ethiopian Government responded by mobilizing troops to reestablish law and order in Tigray.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Mai-Kadra Massacres<\/a>\u00a0of November 9, 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n

On\u00a0November 12,\u00a02020<\/u><\/strong>, Amnesty International released a\u00a0report<\/a>\u00a0\u201cconfirming that scores, and likely hundreds, of people were stabbed or hacked to death in Mai-Kadra (May Cadra) town in the South West Zone of Ethiopia\u2019s Tigray Region on the night of 9 November.\u201d The \u201cforces loyal to the Tigray People\u2019s Liberation Front (TPLF) were responsible for the mass killings, apparently after they suffered defeat from the federal EDF [Ethiopia Defense Forces].\u201d<\/p>\n

In Mai Kadra, the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission \u201cprobe found<\/a>\u00a0atrocity crimes which may amount to crimes against humanity & war crimes were committed by \u2018Samri\u2019 group, aided & abetted by then-local admin, police & militia.\u201d Some 1,600 innocent citizens were massacred in Mai Kadra in November 2020.<\/p>\n

On\u00a0November 9,\u00a02021<\/u><\/strong>, Amnesty International\u00a0issued a report<\/a>\u00a0documenting \u201cdespicable acts by TPLF fighters in Amhara region that amount to war crimes, and potentially crimes against humanity. They defy morality or any iota of humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n

REMEMBER, REMEMBER THE CRIMES OF THE TPLF IN NOVEMBER!<\/strong><\/p>\n

To forget the TPLF massacre victims of 2005 and 2021 would be to forget the monstrous crimes committed against them and excuse the barbaric criminals who committed them.<\/p>\n

To forget the TPLF massacre victims of 2005 and 2021 is to assure the TPLF criminals they will never be held accountable because their crimes have been forgotten.<\/p>\n

To forget the TPLF massacre victims of 2005 and 2021 is to extend an open invitation to new generations of TPLF criminals to commit the same crimes again and again on a greater scale with impunity.<\/p>\n

I remember the TPLF crimes because I cannot and will not forget! Never!<\/p>\n

I remember the TPLF crimes because if I do not who will be there to remember?<\/p>\n

I remember the TPLF crimes because if I forget, the crimes and the criminals will be forgotten.<\/p>\n

If I forget the TPLF crimes, how will history remember? History remembers only when there is someone to remember.<\/p>\n

So, I must remember.<\/p>\n

I must remember the TPLF crimes in Ethiopia by bearing witness in my weekly commentaries every Monday in November, and in December, and in January, and in February, and in March and in April, and\u2026 forever.<\/p>\n

I must remember the TPLF crimes for \u00a0Ethiopia\u2019s \u201cyouth of today, for the children who will be born tomorrow.\u201d I \u00a0do not want the past to become their future.<\/p>\n

I remember Yenesew Gebre\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

On 11\/11\/11,\u00a0Yenesew Gebre,<\/a><\/em>\u00a0a 29 year-old Ethiopian school teacher and human rights activist set himself ablaze outside a public meeting hall in the town of Tarcha located in Dawro Zone in Southern Ethiopia. He died three days later from his injuries. \u00a0Before torching himself, Yenesew told a gathered \u00a0crowd outside of a meeting hall,\u00a0\u201cIn a country where there is no justice and no fair administration, where human rights are not respected, I will sacrifice myself so that these young people will be set free.\u201d<\/p>\n
