Ethiopia: Tamagn Beyene on His Excellency Aklilu Habtewold | 1904 – 1967
I used to hear my dad talking about H. E Aklilu Habtewold with such admiration and extreme sadness with the way he was killed. I was so young at the time it meant very little to me, but some how his name remained in my memory. When I grew up and become politically matured, started exploring Ethiopian political history, there I found his name and his amazing career as one of the top world diplomats. He was truly one of the most capable and accomplished diplomats Ethiopia has ever had. Looking at Ethiopia today, the people who serve her as diplomats and foreign officials, how low we have descended is beyond comprehension.
The worse crime is not only the killing of people like H.E. Aklilu Habtewold, but also our failure of telling the stories of such remarkable leaders and teaching the generation. I wonder how many of our current day so called diplomats know this and ever try to learn from the remarkable accomplishment of H.E. Aklilu Habtewold. Any self respecting nation would celebrate and remembers its heroes. Unfortunately Ethiopia is not that nation today.
Thank you Tamagn for telling the story of of a hero. I salute you!
I don’t know how tamagn is going to explain his work for ESAT and by implication for G7 which is working with Eritrea against the position H.E has tirelessly worked for. does he understand this and try explain this as well.
Guys!! Aklillu was half french, even his brothers Akalework and Mekonen. The whole his money and assets were in Paris. Because he was married a French lady. His brothers too. His dad was an administrator of St George (Arada Giorgis) He trie to escape from the country in a very mischievous way,but failed. And killed by Drug Regime. We don’t fight on the past history of individuals but when we go far out of the phase, just for guiding, we throw our ideas too. Aklillu had done so many idiot things.
It’s these kinds of Ethiopians that I am ashamed of; those who, I believe, are the fruits of Derg and Woyane. They try to trash those who served Ethiopia tirelessly and brought respect to our people. Who ever you are shame on you.
Guys!! Tamagn Beyond is Tigrai but wants to be Amhara, could he be? He wants to be an actor and as he served his country an actor. Who trained him? Where? With whom? Let Tilahun Gugssa allow to talk about the dramas in Ethiopia during Drug time. He was not a carpet cleaner in the National Theatre. As I noticed he played being Belay Zeleke, who wrote that drama? Did Belay went to Maichew? No!!No!! It is a fake history!!
Tamagn Beyene is his name!! Not Beyond!! Read it As Beyene!!Sorry it is misspelled!!!
