Attack on boat near Bab al-Mandeb Strait leaves dozens of people, reportedly carrying official UNHCR documents, dead.

Dozens of Somali refugees have been killed off the coast of Hodeidah in Yemen after a helicopter attacked the boat they were travelling in, according to the International Organization for Migration.

Joel Millman, spokesman for the Geneva-based agency, told the AFP news agency that 42 bodies had been “recovered”, after earlier reports on Friday had put the fatalities at more than 30.

Mohamed al-Alay, a local coastguard officer in the Houthi-controlled Hodeidah area, told the Reuters news agency that the refugees were on their way from Yemen to Sudan when they were attacked late on Thursday by an Apache helicopter near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

The refugees were reportedly carrying official UN refugee agency (UNHCR) documents.

A sailor who had been operating the boat, Ibrahim Ali Zeyad, said 80 refugees were rescued after the incident.

It was not immediately clear who had carried out the attack.

‘Tragic end’

William Spindler, a spokesman for UNHCR, said many of those killed and wounded were registered refugees who had escaped conflict in Somalia.

“We are appalled by this attack on innocent civilians. These are people who have already suffered so much and risked their lives to flee Somalia,” he said.

“They are people who … tried to find security in Yemen but found the situation there becoming increasingly dangerous, with the conflict and the humanitarian crisis coming close to a famine. And now, trying to go somewhere to look for safety and finding this tragic end.”

Hodeidah, on the Red Sea, is controlled by Iran-allied Houthi fighters who in 2014 overran Yemen’s capital Sanaa and forced the Saudi-backed government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to flee into exile.

An Arab coalition was assembled by Saudi Arabia in 2015 to fight the Houthis and troops loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh who have fired missiles into neighbouring Saudi Arabia.

  1. To the Wahhabis, who cares? It is just the blood of another ‘kaddam’, ‘abd’ better known as ‘niggas’! The Wahhabis, the contempt they have for another Horn African? Unimaginable!!! They try to court you with ‘neehna muslimeen’ when the come to your country and once you are in the middle of Bab El Mandeb you are an ‘abd’ an expendable ‘niggar’. And they have been doing that for more than 13 centuries. It is well documented that the Wahhabis were hauling African natives as slaves to the Arabian Peninsula since before the dark age. The estimate is that there could have been at least a million Africans taken as slaves every century until the late 19th century. So one may ask the question: Where are their descendants now? You don’t find a single majority of African descendants in any of the nation on the Arabian Peninsula. What have they done with the descendants of those slaves? When you come to the Americas, you will find descendants of the former slaves in numbers close to more than 100 million. Again the question is: What have the Wahhabis done to those slaves? To me an unknown holocaust was methodically carried out on those slaves over several centuries all over the Arabian Peninsula. That makes my blood boil for so long just thinking about it. Those Wahhabi demons!!! Woe my African people!!!! Woe! Woe! Woe!!!

  2. Rich with petro dollar and armed to the teeth, the Saudis and the Gulf states are spreading their form of religion through coercion in East Africa. For the most part, we are to blame for our ills. We are fools to invite these people to the dinner table. They are no partners to black Africa. They are purely evil in and outside their borders.
The killing of innocent Somali women, men and children is atrocious and criminal. But, it is the blood of dark skinned people, the rest of the world does not care. Had it been white folks on luxury tour of the Red sea that was hit, the news media will present it as breaking news. But, where is the African Union (whatever their name is now), why can’t they ask for an investigation? Why is our blood so cheap? When will we be equally counted? Africa must rise and stand up for its rights. To do that, we must first respect each other and stop squabbling on worthless issues and killing each other along tribe, ethnic and religion lines.

  3. Western politicians are running masked genocide against innocent Africans:

    – They have various organisations using which they portray themselves as helpers.
-There are different tact’s using which they exterminate Africans.
    – They have also institutions to be blamed (what they call ‘terrorist organizations’ and/or ‘disobedient’ leaders).

The time will however come when the realities reveal themselves and a third world war or Armageddon shall confer justice to human conscience.

Most of the masked evil people shall face other forms of judgments http: // www. telegraph. co .uk/news/2017/01/18/former-us-president-george-h-w-bush-92-hospitalised-illness/
