Clean sheet at Norwich puts Man Utd No 1 alongside Hart, Schmeichel and Cech for 2015/16 prize
The race for this season’s Barclays Golden Glove will go down to the final day after the field was reduced from five to four after this weekend’s matches.
David De Gea drew level with the three leaders thanks to a shutout in Manchester United’s 1-0 victory at Norwich City on Saturday, while none of Manchester City’s Joe Hart, Arsenal’s Petr Cech and Kasper Schmeichel, of Leicester City, could add to their tally at the weekend.
The battle is in the hands of De Gea since the 25-year-old is the only one of the four with two BPL matches remaining, against West Ham United on Tuesday and AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Race for the Barclays Golden Glove
|Kasper Schmeichel||15||CHE (A)|
|Joe Hart||15||SWA (A)|
|Petr Cech||15||AVL (H)|
|David De Gea||15||WHU (A), BOU (H)|
*NB: In the event of a tie the prize will be shared. Clean sheets are only awarded for when the full 90 minutes have been played.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Hugo Lloris was in the fight this year’s Golden Glove award up until last week with 13 clean sheets but he now cannot catch the leaders after his side’s 2-1 defeat at home to Southampton at the weekend.
Of the contenders, two, Hart and Cech, are past Barclays Golden Glove winners, Hart winning it four times (2010/11, 2011/12, 2012/13, 2014/15) , while Cech claimed the award three times at Chelsea (2004/05, 2009/10 and 2013/14).
Should Cech win the award again, he will be the first goalkeeper to win it with two different clubs.
