Minnesota’s Oromo community protests at Capitol

By Christopher Aadland
Minnesota (star tribune) –About 200 members of Minnesota’s Oromo community rallied at the State Capitol on Monday to protest treatment at the hands of the Ethiopian government.
The protest was in response to a crackdown on Oromo protestors in Ethiopia, who have opposed government plans to evict farmers from their land to expand Addis Abba, Ethiopia’s capital city.
Hundreds of Oromo — the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia — have been killed by the Ethiopian government since last November, protestors say, and thousands more have been imprisoned for opposing the government.
More recently, march organizers said, the Oromian region of the East African nation has been under martial law.
To put pressure on the Ethiopian government, protestors called for the United States to withhold aid to the Ethiopian government until the violence stops.

“We’re frankly upset over our government not caring enough to stop this,” said Najat Hamza, a community activist and member of Oromo Womens Organization of Minnesota. “We always felt the United States stands for human rights and in this instance their not.”
This was the fourth time Minnesota’s Oromo community. Monday’s march coincided with others nationwide, said Urgo Shanka, one of the event’s organizers and a youth coordinator with the Oromo Womens Organization.

  3. I call upon all opposition political and armed groups to design a plan to liberate Ethiopia from Woyane Thugs by noting the state of Oromo uprising and the anticipated military confrontation with Eritrea. It is a very critical time for a coordinated action!
I believe the opposition has to take note of the possibility of war breaking out in the near future if not any day now. This could bring or create both an opportunity and challenge for both the armed (OLF, ONLF, Arbegnoch Ginbot 7) and non-armed (ODF, Semayawi, Medrek, UEDF) opposition – not to be caught offguard, it is imperative on the part of the opposition to understand the timing and its implication and lead the Ethiopian people to freedom and democracy from the yoke of woyane tyranny.
The opportunity comes from the fact that the enemy of my enemy is my friend – and the positive engagement of the opposition with the government of Eritrea is a testimony in that regard. This certainly creates a solid foundation and access to coordinate the military engagement of Woyane by OLF, ONLF, Arbegnoch Ginbot 7 and Eritrean forces – through spying on woyane forces and military strategy and sharing the information with Eritrean forces, by campaigning among the non-Tigrean portion of the Ethiopian Defense Forces to turn the gun onto Woyanes, by cutting supply routes within Ethiopia, by striking at woyane establishments within Ethiopia, by calling on the Amhara and Southern Region to join the Oromo mass uprising, call on students and teachers to protest, to strike against all woyane thugs and criminals who are killing and maiming people in Oromia, Gambella, Amhara, Ogaden etc, to strike against woyane prisons and free all prisoners of conscience. If the opposition is determined to work and plan on the general themes mentioned above, Woyane will be history within weeks – and the TPLF thugs and other criminals will be brought to justice!!!
The challenge on the other hand is to be aware of the wolves in sheep skin within the opposition – the likes of Elias, Abebe Belew, Tekle Moresh etc.

  5. VOIDING AND CANCELLING AMHARIC LANGUAGE AS ETHIOPIAS OFFICIAL LANGUAGE IS THE KEY FOR DEMOCRATIZATION OF ETHIOPIA.
We Oromos were the majority in Ethiopia, but our oromo culture and language still dominated by Amhara minority language (Amharic), where is the Democracy ? ? where is our Oromos majority rights ? ?
