Re: removed Amharic language forms by Eth. embassy offices abroad

This is a complaint from a concerned Ethiopian living in USA regarding the complete removal of the various forms in Amharic language that were uploaded on the respected embassy websites and made available for Ethiopians at the various embassy offices of Ethiopia abroad.

I have checked some other Ethiopian Embassy offices in some major European countries and in most cases, sadly, they are removed. Is this done by a directive from the ministry or by the good choice /authority of the individual ambassador ?? These forms are legal, constitutional and most importantly are purposeful when they were made to be available on the websites. It helps you to do your preparations before you go to the Embassy for any of your case. These forms were available for example in Washington DC during Ambassador Kassahun Ayele, Ambassador Samuel Assefa, Ambassador Girma Birru and Ambassador Kassa Teklebirhan. Now there is Ambassador Fitsum Arega.

The forms in Amharic language like the authorization form, the visa application form, the passport form the travel forms…etc were available online on the websites of the embassies. Now they are completely removed. There is none. What does this mean?

I do not think that neither the sector minister nor the prime minster are aware of this sabotage.

Looking forward for the reuploading of the relevant Amharic forms on the respective Ethiopian Embassy websites, I remain,

Sincerely,

Mekonnen Gizaw

  1. hmmmmm, a complaint from a faceless “concerned Ethiopian living in USA.” hmmmm wonder who this clown might be? Who would write an open letter hiding their identity but a clown? Traditioal open letters are written by known individuals and organizations to make wider point about a verifiable issue. This is a conspiratorial hit job on Ethiopia. If Ethiopian embassy was a human this would be called character assassination with untrue allegations. But, on the positive side this letter raises an opportune and auspicious matter: Why don’t all the embassy’s around the world cary a form in other Ethiopian languages in addition to the various forms in Amharic language? Why?

  3. Why not? like Amharic others should be a working national language as well. That will eventually become an issue, but the Oromos, however, need to compromise and use Ge’ez alphabet out of respect for Ethiopia’s independence and proud African root instead of the European Latin alphabet.

  4. Mimi/Netsanet:- Are you sure that the Oromifa is ready in Ge’ez alphabet or you both are የወቅቱ ተደማሪ
    by convincing or by confusing.
Let things come first at least to their previous status i.e. like what they used to be during TPLF regime. Then Including other languages like the oromifa in Geez alphabet (the impossible as per the medemer people) and other languages can be issues for discussion. At least Amharic is the language constitutionally recognized now.

  5. M,
You very well know what I meant. Otherwise you are either
