I REMEMBER THE TPLF MASSACRES OF NOVEMBER 2005 AND NOVEMBER 2020!

Al Mariam’s Commentaries / November 16, 2021

Remember, remember Ethiopia in November
The TPLF massacres and murder
In November, the TPLF tried to tear us asunder.

Remember, remember Ethiopia in November
Let us remain united forever
But the TPLF slaughter,  forget never, Never, NEVER!

I respectfully ask all Ethiopians to observe a private moment of silence on November 17, 2021 in remembrance and honor all victims of TPLF massacres and terror.

I REMEMBER THE TPLF MASSACRES OF NOVEMBER 2005

For Ethiopians, November is a month to remember. It is a month which will live in infamy.

In November 2005, Ethiopians faced unspeakable horrors at the hands of the  Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), a terrorist group that had captured power in  1991.

Following the parliamentary elections in May 2005, the late leader of the TPLF Meles Zenawi declared a state of emergency and ordered the massacre of hundreds of citizens who protested peacefully theft of that election by the TPLF.

An official Inquiry Commission established by Zenawi documented 193 unarmed men, women and children demonstrating in the streets and scores of other detainees held in a high security prison were intentionally shot and killed by police and security officials. An additional 763 were wounded. That was only a partial count.

Every November since 2007, I have written a consecratory (sanctifying) memorial in remembrance of the hundreds of innocent unarmed demonstrators massacred and maimed in the aftermath of the 2005 parliamentary election by the TPLF.

In my first memorial tribute, “Remember, the Ethiopian Martyrs of June and November, 2005 Forever!”, written on November 17, 2007, exactly 14 years today, I reminded my readers that it was their moral duty “to bear witness for the dead and the living” as Elie Weisel, the Holocaust survivor and Nobel laureate, so nobly put it.

I urged, “We must remember because we have ‘no right to deprive future generations of a past that belongs to our collective memory. To forget would be not only dangerous but offensive; to forget the dead would be akin to killing them a second time.’”

I REMEMBER THE TPLF MASSACRES OF NOVEMBER 2021

On the evening of November 3, 2020, the TPLF mounted a coordinated attack on the Ethiopian National Defense Force Northern Command military bases in Tigray region.

A TPLF leader explained in meticulous detail how the TPLF tried to grab power using a “blitzkrieg/thunderbolt” (“mebreqawi”) attack on the Federal Northern Command. The aim was to capture regional capitals and swiftly and triumphantly march on the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

The TPLF massacred several thousand federal and wounded and tortured many more.  The Ethiopian Government responded by mobilizing troops to reestablish law and order in Tigray.

The Mai-Kadra Massacres of November 9, 2020

On November 12, 2020, Amnesty International released a report “confirming that scores, and likely hundreds, of people were stabbed or hacked to death in Mai-Kadra (May Cadra) town in the South West Zone of Ethiopia’s Tigray Region on the night of 9 November.” The “forces loyal to the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) were responsible for the mass killings, apparently after they suffered defeat from the federal EDF [Ethiopia Defense Forces].”

In Mai Kadra, the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission “probe found atrocity crimes which may amount to crimes against humanity & war crimes were committed by ‘Samri’ group, aided & abetted by then-local admin, police & militia.” Some 1,600 innocent citizens were massacred in Mai Kadra in November 2020.

On November 9, 2021, Amnesty International issued a report documenting “despicable acts by TPLF fighters in Amhara region that amount to war crimes, and potentially crimes against humanity. They defy morality or any iota of humanity.”

REMEMBER, REMEMBER THE CRIMES OF THE TPLF IN NOVEMBER!

I remember the TPLF massacre victims of November 2005.

I remember the TPLF massacre victims of November 2020.

To forget the TPLF massacre victims of 2005 and 2021 would be to forget the monstrous crimes committed against them and excuse the barbaric criminals who committed them.

To forget the TPLF massacre victims of 2005 and 2021 is to assure the TPLF criminals they will never be held accountable because their crimes have been forgotten.

To forget the TPLF massacre victims of 2005 and 2021 is to extend an open invitation to new generations of TPLF criminals to commit the same crimes again and again on a greater scale with impunity.

I remember the TPLF crimes because I cannot and will not forget! Never!

I remember the TPLF crimes because if I do not who will be there to remember?

I remember the TPLF crimes because if I forget, the crimes and the criminals will be forgotten.

If I forget the TPLF crimes, how will history remember? History remembers only when there is someone to remember.

So, I must remember.

I must remember the TPLF crimes in Ethiopia by bearing witness in my weekly commentaries every Monday in November, and in December, and in January, and in February, and in March and in April, and… forever.

I must remember the TPLF crimes for  Ethiopia’s “youth of today, for the children who will be born tomorrow.” I  do not want the past to become their future.

I remember the TPLF victims of the 2005 massacres.

I remember each and every one of them.

I remember the young women who will never get to be mothers.

I remember the young men who will never get to be fathers.

I remember the orphans whose parents were massacred.

I remember the fathers and mothers who will never get to see their children and never have a chance to see their grandchildren.

I remember the TPLF victims of the 2020 massacres.

I remember each and every victim of TPLF massacre and terror in Amhara and Afar regions in 2021.

I remember the TPLF massacre victims of  Galikoma in Afar region.

I remember the TPLF massacre victims of Nefas Mewcha in Amhara region in 2021.

I remember the TPLF massacres conducted by their proxy terrorist allies throughout Ethiopia for the past 27 years.

I remember the TPLF massacres victims in Ethiopia since the establishment of the TPLF in 1975.

I remember the TPLF massacres victims in Gambella in 2003.

I remember the TPLF massacre victims in Tigray, the children of Tigray forced to become child soldiers, the mothers and fathers who lost their children to satisfy the power hunger of a few TPLF criminals who committed heinous acts in their names.

I will always remember the hundreds of thousands of nameless victims of TPLF massacres and terror all over Ethiopia in November, and in December and in January and in February and in April… forever!

And beneath the sacred Ethiopian earth forever sleep so many innocent victims of TPLF massacres and terror, but they sahll forever reman our our martyrs and our heroes.

All of them were Ethiopians when they were alive.

In death, they have all become Ethiopia! ETHIOPIA INVICTUS!

Here are a few of the names of the 2005 TPLF massacres… Children of ETHIOPIA INVICTIUS!

He died three days later from his injuries.  Before torching himself, Yenesew told a gathered  crowd outside of a meeting hall, “In a country where there is no justice and no fair administration, where human rights are not respected, I will sacrifice myself so that these young people will be set free.”

I remember Yenesew Gebre …
