German-Ethiopian Singer Menna Mulugeta

Menna Mulugeta is an extraordinary young pop music singer, born to Ethiopian parents in Germany in1991. Her musical gifts became obvious in childhood, leading her to win a regional pop-song competition at the age of fourteen. Since then, her story and her voice were featured in many television and radio broadcasts throughout her state while she also appeared in countless celebrated concerts and performances. After her graduation from high school with the Abitur diploma, she traveled to Ethiopia in 2011 to reconnect with her roots.
Collaborating with a team of two internationally experienced American and German musicians when she returned home, Menna assembled a high-powered ensemble and recorded her first solo album of original songs. She also auditioned for the television casting show, “The Voice of Germany.” After progressing through several levels of pre-casting, to which an estimated number of 14.000 singers applied, she qualified as one of roughly 150 singers to participate in the televised shows, which are produced in Germany’s capital, Berlin. In the course of the show, Menna has continued to earn the respect of her peers, the jury and the professional team of the show, progressing through two more televised rounds. Menna is now one of 32 singers remaining in the highly publicized show with an average of more than four million viewers.

The show airs at 8:15 pm German time on Thursdays (channel ProSieben) and Fridays (channel SAT 1). Starting on Thursday, the 22nd of November, the television audience influences the results of the competition by voting for their favorites.
