Super Sport | Ethiopia Walia Ibex coach Yohannes Sahle has hinted of stepping down from his position as Head coach of the national team after what he referred to us “frustrations”.

Speaking to Supersport.com in Rwanda where his team participated in the ongoing African Nations Championship and were knocked out in the first round, Sahle said he felt tired and that his position was no longer tenable from things he had experienced back at home and in the tournament.
“I feel my position as coach of Ethiopia is not tenable and I will have to go back home to Ethiopia to make an informed decision as I feel I am done after so many frustrations as the helm of the team with no one acknowledging our efforts”
“It has not been easy at all. Imagine qualifying for CHAN within three months of taking over the team and yet giants like Algeria,Egypt and even defending champions Libya never qualified. This means we gave our best to be among the last 16 to qualify for the tournament”
“Our preparations ahead of CHAN were not the best. Training for only nine days and playing only one friendly and yet many top teams had over four weeks training together outside their countries and playing high level friendly matches yet at the end of the day I am expected to win matches easily something that is tough for any coach”Sahle told supersport.com
“It was not easy for me back at home before the tournament I had to do administrative duties like going to the immigration to ensure the players got their passports and at the same time coaching. For one person that was too much and as I hoped the federation would give me more support”
“Members of the Ethiopian football federation executive have been here in Rwanda and I told them of my plans but they have said we have crucial Afcon 2017 qualifying matches but I feel we will go back to Ethiopia so that I can make my decisions clearly knowing well the implications”Sahle added.
Ethiopia lost their first game against DR Congo 3-0 before drawing 0-0 against Cameroon and they lost their last game to Angola 1-2 in Kigali.
Yohannes Sahle was appointed as head coach in April 2015 after Portuguese coach Mariano Barreto was sacked.

  1. Yohanees Sahle (nick named “Sahine” when he outburst with emotion after being asked about the legitimacy of his appointment as Walya’s coach by the press media. He replied with anger and frustration stating i earned my degrees by sweeping toilets and washing dishes). Yohannes was a wonderful football player who made it to the national team. Very talented no doubt. But as a coach of the national team he failed and failed miserably. His abrasive relationship with the media and the public is uncalled for. His dismissing of seasoned players after seeing their performance over one game only was unwise.Yohannes hardly made any impact. The team is totally shapeless and looks as if it had no coach at all. A team is not a collection of players. Their performance at the CHAN was woeful and devoid of merit of any sort. It looked like a team that did not know how to play football. The purpose, skill, wit, determination, stamina, intelligence and strategy needed to dribble that ball to the opposition goal was almost absent all in all. You just ask yourself: What did the coach do? Does he think what he is witnessing is normal? In general his departure will be received with pleasure by the general public. It is better to have no coach than have Yohannes as coach of the national team.

  3. Man alive!! how in the world do you expect to raise up a winning team when the moral of the whole country is so law, and sinking deeper and deeper by the day!? The reputation of the nation is so tarnished on the global level, and we have become a laughing stock in every circle!!
Until Weyanes (the curse of the curse of the nation) is removed, no one will see any progress in Ethiopia! The Weyane elements are to be blamed for this demise, and not our athletes! No!no!Our athletes are broken hearted, Weyane elements have crippled their pride!
In Anything the Weyanes do and have done so far there is not one iota of blessings! it is curse from beginning to the end! You shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns or figs of thistles? Listen, a corrupt tree can not bring forth good fruit!!\
No one can name me one thing that these venomous serpents have done that we can say is a blessing to the nation? Not one!! and never, ever will be!!
Yes, the end is coming and it is calling for every Weyanes, “you had better be ready ye shall die and not live”!!
The struggle is raging on every hand, the wind of freedom is blowing from every corner!
God in His time shall wipe away every tear from our eyes!!
    Ethiopia shall be Free!!
