The current EPRDF regime in Ethiopia continues and has exacerbated the policies of successive authoritarian Ethiopian regimes in the past. The genocidal massacres taking place in the Ogaden is well documented by human rights organizations and has led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of civilian populations since 2007. The Ethiopian government’s exploitation of natural resources in the Ogaden has led to a dire humanitarian crisis and a worsening armed conflict. The Ogaden region is currently facing the worst drought in history and international humanitarian organizations that have historically provided much needed assistance, such as Doctors Without Borders and the International Red Cross, have been denied access to operate in the region. Government-sponsored militias, known as the Liyuu Police, continue to commit rape, extrajudicial killings, mass arrests, and torture with impunity. Millions of people in the Ogaden are facing one of the worse famines in the world and the international community continues to turn a blind eye.
The gross human rights situation that has been taking place in the Ogaden has now spread all over Ethiopia, mainly in the Oromia and Amhara regions. The EPRDF regime, which is mainly controlled by the Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), is now committing mass genocidal campaigns against the Oromo people. We are receiving credible reports of mass arrests, kidnappings and extrajudicial killings taking place in different parts of Oromia. The Ethiopian regime’s current policy of displacing hundreds of thousands of Oromo farmers off their land has led to an uprising led by the Oromo youth. Protesters have spread all over the country and new armed opposition groups have emerged in parts of the Amhara, Afar, and Sidama regions. The Oromo people, who make up nearly half the population of Ethiopia, have been under repression and marginalization by successive Ethiopian regimes in the past. The Oromo people are essential to the future of Ethiopia and can play a fundamental role in the stability or instability of the Horn of Africa. The Ethiopian regime’s ill-advised policies and criminal behavior will lead to a humanitarian crisis in epic proportion if the international community does not intervene.
The Ogaden Youth and Student Union (OYSU) stands in solidarity with the Oromo youth and students who are leading the peaceful protests currently taking place in Ethiopian and have been the main target of rapes, mass arrests, killings, and kidnappings. The Ogaden and Oromo people, not only share a common struggle, but also share a common history of repression and marginalization by successive Ethiopian regimes. We are calling upon both people to unite against the Ethiopian regime, and reclaim freedom and justice for their respective people.
OYSU urges the international community, and mainly Western nations, to put an end to the funding and sponsoring of authoritarianism and genocide in Ethiopia. We urge Western powers, such as the United States and the United Kingdom, to pressure the Ethiopian government to end the gross human rights abuses taking place in Oromia, Ogaden and elsewhere in Ethiopia. We urge international human rights organizations to continue and further their commitment to exposing the genocidal massacres and displacements taking place in these regions. Lastly, we urge international media organizations to shed light on the acts of genocide and crimes against humanity the Ethiopian regime has been committed in the Ogaden, Oromia, and in other regions of the country.

  1. I share your concern and struggle for freedom and humans right but true story must be told.
The current regime is no comparison to any previous governments. ONLF and OLF are formed by Somalians and Shabia to create problem for Ethiopian government and it was not about humans right. Now people are recognizing the problem of these two groups and are claiming to go stand with the rest of Ethiopians fighting for the same cause, freedom from TPLF/EPRDF.
In the history of Ethiopia there was never a government comprised from one single minority ethnic group imposing its will and power on the whole country. Killing and repressing to insure and control power and wealth of the country. Dividing and robbing people and country in ethnic zones that citizen do not own anything but used for EPRDF/TPLF sole use and purpose.
There are complete differences between the monarch and the Leninist communist Derg governments. From the inception Ethiopia has been ruled by monarch until the violent military coup d’etat that Mengistu popped himself out of no where. Although not efficient, people owned land and properties and lived harmoniously with each other. Unity and peace with each other has always been promoted. People identified themselves as Ethiopians instead of using tribal names.
And there are some similarities between the Derg and TPLF/EPRDF governments. Derg and TPLF/EPRDF divide people in different ways. Both are very violent and repressive. They are violently after power and money that they did’t earn. Derg used words to divide and galvanize the poor and to go after the wealthy by calling: “the mass”, “Lab ader”, Wez ader”, dem metacheq” or “bourgeois”.
Of course the aim was to snatch, land, wealth and power at the expense of the poor.
TPLF/EPRDF actually placed zones to divide the whole country and people. People are identified in tribes names instead of citizens of a country. Sold and ceded lands and port to foreigners and made the population landless and homeless. Made its ethnic supporter Tigrayans millionaires and billionaire.
Kept all the wealth it got from the Derg and never return anything to its rightful owners that worked hard to earn it. TPLF treats the whole country as its sole property

  2. I can say mine too. My heart is with poor ,my heart is with with farmers and students who got killed by bandas.the facts are students are innocents, the facts are peoplr in ethiopia murderd just becous they are helpless.i definetly oppose any thing tplf does ,becouse there is tplf is just same as duche moailoni.

  3. Gow people see it.now the way i see it, the Demonstration by sudent the Truth.1, the couse of couses are OLF.2,OLF is behind the march.3,OLF donot just know bettet to organize for win win.4,tplf is crushing oromo students by the agazi.and tplf can get more agazi from debub. ,amhara, tigri and so on.5,evrey one want to use their etinic identity to creat brand new country ,like oromia ,ogaden, tigri ,etc.6,all ethiopian, they still abandon amhara .all ethiopian who are based on ethinicity called amhara is their colonizer.7, i donot see any legegitimate unity, the goal of unity made in the past is does nothing to save ethiopia .8,if tplf eliminated e ry one run after their region, for example OLF for oromia, somalis for ogaden teden for tigri, shabiya for A.A palace. 9,with out amhara unity and contributions ethiopia will be syria, and what reason we have ethiopia is not yemen,10,amhara said it let us unite as one nation and one country.tplf scared amhara, becouse amhara is uniter of ethiopia,if we are not united tplf always will win.
