The Eritrean Minister of Information, Yemane Gebremeskel also shared the statement on Twitter:
Earlier, few media outlets with logistical and political ties with the Ethiopian government had reported that Ethiopia has been responding to an attack by Eritrea on the Tsorena Front. The Tsorena Front is said to be among the four fronts that is closer to Eritrea.
Since the two years border war of 1998-2000, there were several border skirmishes between Ethiopia and Eritrea. None of them has been intent on or capable of launching a full scale war.
The few reactions on social media have been diverse with little nationalistic reactions compared to the situations in the 1998-2000 war. Many Diaspora based Eritreans on Community Voice Chat Rooms have been divided about the current conflict with the majority saying that there should be no conflict while many others were saying that the no peace no war situation must end once and for all.
The responses within the Ethiopian social mediasphere has been divided according to the political inclinations of the digital communities. Most pro government media outlets and social media users have showed their support to the government and called the Ethiopian government to go as far as the Capital Asmera, Eritrea to remove Isaias Afwerki.
The rest of the Ethiopian social media communities, mostly those that are critical of the incumbent, have vowed not to support the current conflict, while not a few opposition supporters claimed to stand with the Eritrean regime.
