In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

The First Hijrah Foundation, an Ethio/America Muslims organization in the Washington, DC area is concerned with what is taking place in the kingdom regarding the mistreatment of Ethiopians of all walks of life.
As we recognize the Saudi authority’s right in implementing its laws and as we appreciate the opportunity the government gave for all immigrants to correct their status, we are concerned with how the authorities are violently trying to deal with the situation. Information on social media both audio and videos indicates that so far about 13 Ethiopian have lost their lives and many others are severely injured during the crackdown. Most alarming is that as the authorities rounding up the males, Saudi youth thugs are going around raping the women in their places of residence. This is contrary to Islamic teachings and any international laws protecting refugees.
We are encouraged to see that Saudi religious leaders come out condemning these acts of brutality and urging the authorities and the public to respect the rights of the Kingdom’s guests. The vast majorities of the asylum seekers are genuine and law abiding individuals who are victims of circumstances in their own country of origin and are trying to make an honorable living to help their families. Most who missed the generous extension time given by the Kingdome to correct their status failed to do so because of the Ethiopian embassy unwillingness or inability to provide them with the necessary paperwork.
We urge the government of the Kingdome of Saudi Arabia to re-consider its mass deportation of these hopeless people and protect the women from abuses that will taint the noble reputation of the Kingdome.
We urge you to remember that Ethiopia (the land of the First Hijrah) was the land that received and protected the companions of our beloved Prophet Muhammad may the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him from the Meccan polytheists’ repression.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verse 8:O: “you who have believed! Be steadfast in righteousness and just in giving witnesses for the sake of Allah. The enmity of any people should not so provoke you as to turn you away from justice. Do justice; for it is akin to piety. Fear Allah (in all your affairs). Indeed, He is fully aware of what you do.”
