A Call For Action: Campaign to rebuild schools that were destroyed by recent conflict in Ethiopia

Dear Fellow Ethiopians and Friends:

As many of you are aware, the recent tragic internal conflict in Ethiopia has impacted the lives of millions of innocent civilians and have had profound effects at many different levels, including destruction and severely damaging the existing infrastructure and leaving the country in an unprecedented state of despair and tragedy. Sadly, more than 7,000 schools in the Afar and Amhara regions of Ethiopia were destroyed and damaged. As a result, in the Afar and Amhara regions alone, more than 1.42  million students are out of school and missing education; children can’t afford another year of school disruption.

If ever there was a time when Ethiopia needed us it is now.

We believe that through the collective efforts of Ethiopians around the world we can help rebuild these communities and provide support.

At People to People, we are humbled by the wave of inspired, dedicated, and motivated people who have contacted us willing to serve those in need.  Several medical missions from the Ethiopian diaspora community have been deployed and are traveling monthly to serve different regions affected by the turmoil at their own expense. Now it is time for a new mission which is to rebuild at least 10 schools: 3 Afar and 7 in the Amhara region. Join us and help make a real difference in the lives of the affected communities and students and to transform these schools into an effective & dynamic learning environment. Your gifts through People to People, Inc. will make this possible .

But we need your help

What are the needs?

The main focus of these missions is to rebuild schools for students in the two conflict-affected regions of Afar and Amhara. An estimated 1.5  million Ethiopian Birr, (about $ 30,000 USD)  is needed to rebuild one school and to supply basic learning material and equipment. The funds will be used to cover only to rebuild the schools and to provide necessary school supplies.

We ask you to partner with us by making financial contributions of any amount. Please consider supporting this important and very urgent cause.  Our goal is to rebuild as many schools as possible in the shortest possible time.
