Algeria announce bid for Afcon 2017

September 24, 2014

The Algeria football federation said on Tuesday it had submitted an application to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations after initial attempts went unsuccessful with the 2019, 2021 and 2023 editions.

The north African nation will face competition from more than half a dozen other candidates including Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Egypt.
Libya bowed out from organising the tournament following renewed violence in the country between rebel factions.
The successful candidate will be announced by Caf early next year.
Cameroon won the right to host the 2019 Afcon while Ivory Coast and Guinea were selected for the 2021 and 2023 editions respectively.
