As per recent reports, it has been found that Ethiopia has found first polio case since 2008. It has been found that an 18-month-old boy from the Warder district has been infected with polio.
The area is the one that borders Somalia. It is the place where 108 polio infections were detected in this year only.
Carol Pandak, head of Rotary International’s polio eradication program, was of the view that it is not surprising at all that the polio case has been detected. The area is considered to be risky as it is close to Somalia, where so many polio cases have been reported.
When the health experts got to know about the polio cases in Somalia then they termed the outbreak to be explosive. They were of the view that the number of cases in Somalia is even more than the cases in the countries, where disease is considered to be endemic.
It was in May when Somalia and Kenya reported their first case of polio. Then only, the WHO has warned the neighboring countries that they are also at risk.
Polio is said to spread through sewage system. It can cause paralysis, weakness and pain in muscles and joints.
